]]>We are seeking an Aspire Engagement Officer to join the enthusiastic Aspire to HE team. The Aspire to HE consortium, based at the University of Wolverhampton, is part of the Office for Students-funded National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP), which aims to increase the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher education by 2020 through widening participation. NCOP supports 29 consortia across the country to work with young people from targeted postcodes and Aspire to HE covers the areas of Sandwell and Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton, and Telford and Wrekin.
This post will play a crucial role in enhancing our relationships with targeted, partner schools and supporting pupils in these schools to progress. You will work in our partner school to deliver programmes of activity to targeted NCOP pupils between Year 9 to Year 13. Pupils targeted through NCOP may be resistant to Higher Education and you will need to be adaptable, enthusiastic and engaging in the delivery of programmes of activity. Programmes of activity delivery may include workshops, group work, one-to-one mentoring sessions, facilitation of activities in-school and organisation of visits to outside organisations.
The role is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their goals and make informed, ambitious decisions about their futures. You have the potential to make a huge impact on the young people you work with. You will receive on the job training, a nationally accredited mentoring qualification and support to help you develop and excel in the role.
Reportable to a Senior Partnership Officer in the Aspire to HE team, you will also receive support within your school from an Aspire to HE ‘Lead Teacher’. Due to the fast-paced nature of working within schools, you will need to be resilient, proactive problem solver who is able to use your initiative on a daily basis.

]]>NCOP aims to identify and address issues around progression into Higher Education. In particular, it seeks to undertake outreach activity in specific local areas where HE participation is low overall and lower than expected given GCSE attainment levels.
The Project Officer role is to co-ordinate the effective operational development and delivery of projects and activities that support the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Collaborative Outreach Programme (DANCOP), as directed by the Lead Project Officer and the senior management team.
You will be experienced in designing educational programmes of activity for young people; ideally focussed around raising aspirations to Higher Education. You will be required to work closely with delivery hub colleagues to ensure targeted provision is relevant and successfully delivered, monitored and evaluated.
The role also requires the Project Officer to liaise with third party providers of activity, and other DANCOP stakeholders.

We will collate these images into a video aiming to show the diversity of Earth Scientists working today, with a focus on promoting underrepresented groups. If you work in Earth Science please do get involved and please share with your colleagues, we want as many people as possible to take part!

]]>The Big Bang Fair is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths for young people in the UK. The Fair aims to bring these subjects to life in a big way by allowing our young visitors to get hands on with over 120+ STEM activities. The Big Bang Fair will take place from the 11th-14th March 2020 in the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham. Over 4 days we welcome approximately 80,000 visitors.
The Research and Innovation Hub is new for 2020 and will allow visitors to experience cutting-edge science and technology research, talk to university professionals, and understand the potential of a career in research. The Hub with be set up as a grid of up to 9 research projects, where each group will be allocated their own space in the grid. Groups can talk about their research, along with some hands-on activities at their stand for the visitors to take part in.
As an exhibitor you will be eligible to attend our Kick-Off meeting for exhibitors in January at the NEC, and our STEM and Careers Messaging workshop in December in London. At The Fair there is also the opportunity to take part in our ‘Meet the Future You’ stage show panels at the Careers Cabin, where you, or a member of your team, can talk to our visitors about your research and career.
