This is happening at my house in Nacogdoches, TX currently. About two days ago I went to go put something in the bed of my Tacoma, and noticed a palm sized spread of small maggot like larvae wriggling about. Today the entire bed has a pretty even distribution of them approx. an inch apart. We have four large pines (loblolly I believe) that line the side of the driveway.

That is amazing! Truly inspiring to think how much there is we still don’t know even in our own backyards! Thanks!

The holotypes of four species came from my yard, not counting one that Owen and I have recently determined is actually synonymous with a previously named species. There are two others that I first discovered in what used to be my yard (where my parents still live), and four others for which some of the type specimens came from the woods behind my house (two from my neighbors’ land).

I find this so inspiring how much one can do and discover even in our own backyards! Thank you for the work you do!

The route to more information resembles the squiggly path of a leafminer. The observations and questions brought forth as the journey proceeds are every bit of exciting as the question that initiated the journey. The twisting path of inquiry spawns future adventures for the mind. Thanks for posting this.
