Djemillah Mourade Peerbux

Our Design Thinking Expert

Djemillah Mourade Peerbux is a social activist from Mauritius who founded The Ripple Project in 2016. This initiative focuses on providing basic hygiene products to underprivileged women, particularly those experiencing period poverty. She started this project after realizing how expensive sanitary products were for many women in Mauritius. The project aims to ensure access to sanitary pads, soap, and other essential hygiene products for women in shelters and rehabilitation centers across the island.

Beyond distributing products, Djemillah also focuses on advocacy, raising awareness about period poverty and fighting the stigma surrounding menstruation. She emphasizes that basic hygiene products should be seen as a human right rather than a luxury.

The Ripple Project relies on donations, and Djemillah has led campaigns to make the project sustainable by partnering with brands and mobilizing volunteers to help with distribution. Her efforts continue to influence perceptions around menstrual health and aim to make these products more accessible to all women in Mauritius.

Her initiative has benefited various women’s shelters across Mauritius and continues to address an essential issue of gender inequality in the country.

Djemillah is an expert in Human Centred Design and has led numerous labs and initiated a lot of people in the subject. She regularly collaborates with multiple organisations and now lives and works in the U.K.
