The winners of Catalyst 2022 are revealed. |
New technologies are emerging rapidly, presenting countless opportunities for how we stay informed and connected with the world around us.
Back again after three years, it’s finally here — CATALYST 2022!
Our beginner-friendly hackathon is your time to shine — tell the world about how you envision the future of media, in your own way! The best ideas will earn their share of $1300 worth of amazing prizes.
What is Catalyst?
Catalyst is CISSA’s beginner friendly hackathon, which gives you the unique opportunity to create your vision for the future of media through your own project. We want you to put your creative juices to the test in areas such as: social media, art and design, video games, photography, videography, streaming, news, VR and AR. Take your pick!
No prior experience? No problem! Over the two-day event, you’ll be supported by industry mentors and a series of informative skill-building workshops. Gourmet delicacies will be provided for lunch on both days, and we’ve also lined up a pub night to celebrate the conclusion of the hackathon on Sunday.
What do I need to do?
We want you to create a project that you’re proud of. After the hackathon, we hope you’re excited and motivated to build your project further to completion.
You have the complete freedom to shape your project idea. For example, you could create your own content, such as interactive media or video games. Similarly, you may choose to develop a solution that solves problems or improves upon current technologies. Perhaps you have an amazing new approach to content distribution, or perhaps you’re passionate about improving interactivity on social media platforms.
What are the prizes?
Catalyst is unique — instead of ranking presentations based on rigid criteria, we award projects which excel in a particular area, such as creativity, technology or design.
All participants will also go in the draw for some amazing raffle prizes (to be announced soon!).
How do I join?
Ticket sales are open now! Your ticket gives you access to the competition, workshops, free food, prizes and an experience of a lifetime. Get your ticket ASAP to score 50% off with a $5 early bird ticket. Early bird tickets close on the 20th, after which you can also purchase tickets for $10.
Requirements
What to Build
Here are some ideas for what you can do:
-
Create your own content. For example:
-
Interactive media, video games
-
Make a solution that solves problems or improves upon current technologies. For example:
-
New approaches, new methods and tools to create content. E.g. AR Lego visualiser
-
New ways to distribute content. Social media, video streaming, podcasts, offline, online, VR, AR. What ideas do you have to extend these fields?
-
How to improve Interactivity. How to improve the connection between creators and followers, how to have clearer communication between users? Like, share, comment, what else could be done?
-
How to increase authenticity in media? Fight against the spam bots. How to verify humans?
- How to make media more safe and secure? We need ways to protect people from harmful content.
Have other ideas? As long as it ties into the theme of "Future of Media", we're sure it will be amazing!
