Our flagship semester 2 Hackathon Catalyst! This year’s theme revolves around the fun side of tech. Think games, movies, music and more! Build a project over the weekend for a chance to win attractive prizes, all while munching on good food and receiving professional mentoring!

Music, Film and Social Media

Media permeates nearly every aspect of modern life. You listen to music on the way to work, watch short-form content while brushing your teeth, go to see movies with loved ones. This theme is all about enhancing peoples’ relationship with the media they consume. Be it recommending content that users will enjoy, to limiting the hours spent on social media, the possibilities are endless! We want you to build innovative, disruptive projects that will change the way we, as digital citizens, consume media.

Example projects:

Collaborative movie-watching app, music app that analyses your music taste etc

Fashion and Style

Everyone wants to look drippy! This theme is not just about looking good (though it is always a priority!). Fashion encompasses a wide range of industries and processes, transforming raw materials to appealing clothing, accessories and fragrances that you want to wear. Sourcing of raw materials, designing clothing, supply chain management, marketing and more, these are all areas which can be improved with the use of technology! This is where you come in, come up with projects that changes the way that people shop, and the way that clothing is produced and distributed.

Example projects:

Web extensions for getting discounts, market analytics tools for fashion companies, platform to design clothing etc.

Gaming and E-sports

Gaming today is no longer just a niche hobby as it was in the decades prior. With the value of the industry projected to reach $294b by the end of 2024, video games are a big money business. Consequently, we have also seen the unprecedented rise of E-sports, with major events like The International having prize pools of up to $1.5 million. This theme encompasses all facets of the gaming industry, you can build a game, create software that helps gamers improve, design an anti-cheat system and more! Show us something the gaming world has never seen!

Example projects:

Reflex training tool, arcade-style game etc.
