Not School — Learning without School https://catalystnow.net/events/not-school-learning-without-school/ Tue, 10 Mar 2026 11:00:26 +0000 https://catalystnow.net/events/not-school-learning-without-school/ Learning is a natural phenomenon that everyone engages in throughout their lives. It often stems from personal curiosity, relationships, and random events like visiting a museum. In reality, most human learning occurs outside of school; only a small portion of a person’s lifetime is spent in formal education. ‘Not School’ includes play, observing others, trying new things, participating in sports, watching television, absorbing information from YouTube and social media, constructing physical objects, drawing, making music, Scouting, religion, and much more. Using a systems-change perspective, we will see how standardised curricula and rigid structures hinder innovation. We will explore ways to change policies, incentives, and mindsets. Our aim is to transform entire systems, not just make superficial updates classrooms.

Digital Resilience for Feminist Organising & Civic Engagement – Uganda https://catalystnow.net/events/digital-resilience-for-feminist-organising-civic-engagement-uganda/ Wed, 18 Feb 2026 10:03:45 +0000 https://catalystnow.net/events/digital-resilience-for-feminist-organising-civic-engagement-uganda/ Digital Resilience for Feminist Organising, Civic Engagement, and Community Safety – Kampala, Uganda
Digital platforms are now central to feminist organising, advocacy, and civic engagement in Kampala. From mobilising communities to documenting injustices and influencing policy, online spaces have become essential tools for social change.
However, this visibility comes with growing risks:
– Online surveillance
– Hacking and impersonation
– Coordinated harassment and disinformation
– Data breaches and doxxing
For many women and marginalised groups, digital spaces are no longer neutral-they are contested arenas where power, control, and resistance play out, often with real offline consequences.
Join our Conversation Café on Digital Resilience, designed to:
– Explore how digital risks affect feminist organising and civic participation
– Strengthen individual and organisational digital resilience
– Share practical cybersecurity strategies for safer advocacy
– Build collective awareness on navigating online threats while sustaining movements
This Café brings together:
Feminist analysis
Digital security expertise
Civic and policy perspectives
Our goal is not to retreat from digital spaces-but to engage them more safely, strategically, and sustainably.

Learning in 21st Century School — The What, the Why, the How https://catalystnow.net/events/learning-in-21st-century-school-the-what-the-why-the-how/ Tue, 10 Feb 2026 11:00:09 +0000 https://catalystnow.net/events/learning-in-21st-century-school-the-what-the-why-the-how/ The current model of public schooling is nearly a century old. In most countries, the model is based upon systems developed in the U.S. and the U.K., and rely upon standard subjects (Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.). They grow from a common misunderstanding about learning and life: everyone must learn and know the same things. Today, individuals and the marketplace value diversity over uniformity. Although we may learn some of the same things — particularly about behavior, communicating and taking care of ourselves and one another — the emphasis has shifted toward learning based upon personal interests and the future plans of each individual student. School was not designed for this degree of customization, or the importance of curiosity, agency, inquiry and real-world problem solving. Personal learning is now the rule, not the exception, and school is far behind the students in this regard.
