This book was written around 2000 and during the .com bubble burst. There are plenty of great interviews with community builders around Amazon, and Slashdot. It talks about email, forums, chat rooms, instant messaging and touches on Usenet, IRC, Arpanet and BBS’ origins.

It also talks about managing, hosting and ending online social communities. Things like anonymous users and tying in real world events are also covered. Using things like waiting periods before posting as a gate to avoid spam. It also goes into self policing communities and things like Karma, which give you more abilities.

Thrift store pick up, its a window in to the past but much of the advice is still true.

I have entered a Reddit hackathon to make a table top game.

I chose one similar to “Stock Ticker”

You buy and sell stocks, collect dividends.

Any feedback would be great.

It was rusted out, and when run, it leaked. We replaced it with a new Samsung for some $900.

On top of that unsure of the wiring and plumbing in the house, paid plumbers to install it and fix a drain.

Warranty of the dishwasher 1 year.

Never was installed to countertop properly and rocked out.

A year and a half later…

Accidentally ripped of a mental tab holding the upper spray arm off, when trying to remove the arm for cleaning. Had to remove the third tray to prevent the arm from hitting it.

Soon after error codes, failure to drain, then smoking from the dish compartment.

Estimates on the repair of a new computer and motor plus labor more than it’s worth.

I have fixed dishwashers a few times in the past.

I did not have money for a new one, just left it for months.

Picked up a used one for $40. Older model, clean, no computer!

Turned off power, turned off water, disconnected old dishwasher power, drain and water.

Installed new washer, tested water, no leaks.

Turned on power and put paper under for leaks and a water alarm.

Took it for a rinse and drain, put a clean cup in the upper rack and it filled fine.

Washed dishes great.

Just took a few pairs of pliers and a screw driver. A few screws.

Had to pick different screws to get it into the counter top.

Overall great success.

I should have done this sooner, but I have had mixed results with used dishwashers.

Also very disappointed with my Samsung unit. Computers!

I was the only one to show up and Tim showed me how to use it and went over some slides. Demoed inkscape a little.

There was a small multiple choice test at the end, mostly to make sure you are paying attention.

We cut and etched a piece of wood.

They had demos of glass, mirrors, metal, plastic and also a tool that lets you etch on cylindrical shaped objects.

There is a makerspace monthly meetup, and I have been to one before… Thursday evening, check the calendar.

There is another training for the 3D printer, which I will take another time.

I’m also excited about the embroidery machine.

Took a trip to Waterloo to go to this event.

Good attendance, venue and food.

It was a group programming/brainstorming session on testing a refactored interfaces with one set of tests using interfaces.

Overview of major AWS services.

One video did not work, and at one point it forgot my history of what sections I already covered.

Overall pretty good basic overview.

Not interactive at all but it did involve some multiple choice questions.

Covered things like EC2(Compute), S3(Object Storage), block storage and other databases as well as Lambda functions.

Also covered auto scaling and load balancing, and things like availability zones.

It mostly took an application of an employee directory and went through deploying it to various services.

Bought this one used.

Started out with ES1.6 section, which I really liked.

Covers the basics of react with a few small projects for recipes and star ratings.

Covers a few libraries and tools just lightly: eslint, next, typescript, server tools.

It also touches on the older class component style of react lightly as well, but the main focus is on the newer style function components.

I remember taking a react programming test online and just going through the modern react docs, I did not get any part of the Class components, and the whole test was on that style.

I would like a more advanced book/project to take a look at how some large projects are using React.

I’m reading Full-Stack React Projects next, I hope it gives me the examples I am looking for.

I would love any feedback. I made this with create react app.

I think using PowerShell was important, and as admin was important.

The test page would not load after it was running.

The documentation said the firewall settings would be added automatically.

This turned out to be a lie or broken or something.

I eventually turned the firewall off and the page loaded.

Then I created firewall rules and turned it back on, and still loaded.

Now I’m download an app to test it… and more upgrades.

Earlier in the labs of phase 1 of this hackathon I got connected to an LLM AI… I think I chose the GPT4 model. I saw some good text responses, modified the input and saw it change. Cool.

Going to take a try at this hackathon.

One part is making a chat bot… I think mostly tutorial. I’m going to go the node.js way. There is also a python option.

Part 2 is adding that chat bot to an exiting app, or new app.
