Codebrew welcomes all students regardless of skill level to work through an exhilarating and rewarding 48 hours in a team environment, to experience the joy of coming up with innovative ideas, and the joy of building new things.
With the goal of our hackathon being to develop the participants’ technical knowledge, we will also be holding workshops on topics related to UI/UX design, web development, version control etc. leading up to and during the event. Experienced mentors from industry leaders such as Optiver, Atlassian, IMC, ANZ etc. will also be present to provide participants with guidance and offer expert opinions on their ideas.
Come sign up and try your hand at developing and creating innovative technological solutions to contemporary issues in this ever-changing world!
This year's hackathon will take place over the weekend of the mid-sem break, where teams comprised of 3-5 students will create a software project under the given theme of “A Green Future”. Participants are asked to brainstorm ideas under 3 different tracks under the given theme:
Track 1: Carbon & Energy
Global carbon emissions have become an increasingly prominent problem and little has changed in the way our world handles energy storage and production. This track is everything related to bolstering clean energy sources and reducing carbon emissions. Hackers are encouraged to brainstorm ideas on how to promote cleaner transportation, optimise energy usage within the home, inform people about carbon emissions, and promote renewable energy sources.
Track 2: Waste
The resource production of the modern world is nothing like anything history has witnessed. This drives our comfortable lives but also results in unprecedented waste production. This track is all about utilising technology to reduce our impact on the environment. Hackers are urged to formulate ideas on how to bolster recycling, reduce usage of products with harmful waste, lessen the consumption of single use items and promote composting.
Track 3: Food and nutrition
Obesity and diet related health issues are a prominent problem and food production takes its toll on the earth. This track prompts for technology to be employed to assist people to adjust to a healthier lifestyle for them and for the earth. Hackers are prompted to create solutions to inform people about the benefits of a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle, make this lifestyle more accessible and ensure they are able to maintain it.

Requirements
ROUND 1: Video Pitch (Due 3pm Saturday 23rd April on Devpost)
Codebrew 2022 will be using Devpost to showcase your projects and ensure smooth running of the judging process. All teams are required to make a valid submission on Devpost for Round 1 judging. A valid submission in Round 1 is constituted by:
-
URL link to a publicly visible Github repository that contains all of the code developed for your project.
-
URL link to a 3-5 minute long pitch video that showcases your project. Any platform that allows the video to be publicly viewed is accepted, e.g. Youtube / Google Drive / Vimeo etc.
-
Complete project submission on DevPost, including a submission title (we recommend using your project name + a simple tagline for this), photos/videos for your project gallery, and the project description.
ROUND 2: Live Pitch (6pm Sunday 24th April on Zoom)
Zoom link to the pitching session (also in-person at Arts West, Forum Theatre): https://unimelb.zoom.us/j/81035689737?pwd=VG5wZGg4YUltWHZLZEtPTk5aZWVRZz09
Top 2 teams from each track will be announced at 9am Sunday 24th April on all Codebrew socials (FB event, Discord, Codebrew website, Devpost). The 6 teams must prepare a pitch by 6pm Sunday 24th April. The order of presentation will be drawn randomly and announced along with the Top 2 teams from each track. The live pitch will be observed by all Codebrew judges and fellow competitors.
Live pitch must be no longer than 5 minutes per team, followed by 5 minutes of QnA time. All Codebrew judges and fellow competitors will observe the pitch.
Judges will be given a score sheet to fill out during and after each pitch. The score sheet follows the same judging criteria as published on Devpost. Therefore, we recommend building your pitch according to how your product responds to the criterias.
