Hello Mark,
Thank you for using the Prime Mover plugin! Regarding your question, it is not currently possible to migrate an entire WordPress network at once. You can only migrate one subsite at a time.
This has already been added to our To-Do list as one of the plugin’s future features for migrating an entire network once.
Regarding your project, it would be fastest to do the following if possible:

-> Copy your plugins, themes, and media files to the target server.

-> If the domain name and WordPress path are the same between the old and new server, restore the database via command line on your target. This moves all of the site’s data once to the target server. You don’t need to search and replace if your site and server paths are the same.

-> If the domains or server paths are different, you can use Prime Mover PRO to migrate the big site in parts:

https://codexonics.com/prime_mover/prime-mover/how-to-migrate-very-large-wordpress-sites-by-parts/

This method only migrates your database faster than a complete package. Prime Mover handles the search and replaces it automatically if needed.

If you don’t want to migrate each site database, you might need to look into another plugin that could migrate an entire network. I’m not sure, though, if such plugins exist.

I hope that our suggestion helps resolve your issue.

Cheers,

Emerson

I have a wordpress multisite network with about 1000 subsites.
I want to migrate them to another server, which will eventuallywill become a production instead of the old one.
The configurations between them are different, so I can’t just copy all files and DBs.
I have tried migrating a couple of sites manually and it seem to wkr just fine for my purposes.
Do you have some suggestions on how to automate the migration, it is not feasible to manually migrate them one by one.

Thank you,

Hello Andre,
The PRO can export and restore the main site to another subsite. For detailed procedure – please check this tutorial. If you have questions or need clarification, please feel free to contact us. Thanks again for your interest in Prime Mover PRO.

Cheers,
Emerson

I need to export my multisite main site and import it as a new sub-site (I need to create some sub-sites who are copy’s of the main website).

Is this supported in PRO version?

Thank you very much!

Best Regards!

Hello Renzo,

I’m sorry, but the Prime Mover plugin does not yet support this. You can only export and merge content after migration using the WordPress exporter and importer. But take note—this might be the one you expected because it entirely depends on your site’s functionality.

For details on this workaround – you can read our reply in WordPress.org forum. Cheers.

Cheers,
Emerson

Which has the month of January content and articles … the one we merging is from December last year and so on for a few years back. they want access to those years (news site) can I import that into the new one and keep the new post?

Hello Michael,

I appreciate your interest in using Prime Mover PRO! I see that you have a multisite hosted in Pantheon. Prime Mover requires some paths to be writable because these files will need to be written on your site in the event of a migration or backup restoration. For example, restoring a backup that includes plugins/themes/uploads files requires write access to the plugins/themes/uploads directories.

In export events – Prime Mover also copies files from these directories to the archive – so these write permissions must always work.

Prime Move also needs write-access to your site’s mu-plugins directory since we add custom constants and scripts (some hosts restrict access to wp-config for security reasons) critical for migration and backup to work.

We are open to reviewing these controls and working with the Pantheon technical group if they are willing to adjust and make the plugin compatible with their hosts.

Can you please send me all the paths Pantheon restricts write access the plugin needs? These paths provide information on what we must adjust when making the plugin compatible with Pantheon. You can send these paths to our contact form, which we will review. We cannot guarantee it can be worked out, but we will look again.

Cheers,

Emerson

I host a bunch of WordPress multisite networks on Pantheon. They use read-only envs for the codebase for test/live environments. Is there a way to get Prime Mover to work there? It won’t activate without having the ability to write to a number of locations and if I switch to read-only mode, it deactivates itself.
