Cool Amps was one of twelve companies selected from more than 800 applicants for the U.S. Army’s xTechSearch 8 Prize Competition, the Army’s only open-topic program for small businesses.

Focused on harnessing new and disruptive technologies, the competition integrates participants into the Army’s science and technology ecosystem. As they progress, companies receive training and advice on how to align solutions with Army users and buyers. The competition provides up to $800,000 in cash prizes.

DOE CHIP Program

Cool Amps was selected to continue in the Department of Energy’s Clean-tech Hardware Innovation Prototyping (CHIP) Program, established by the Northwest Cleantech Innovation Network in partnership with the CleanTech Alliance and VertueLab.

Supported by the DOE’s Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC), CHIP provided nearly $50,000 for instrumentation and staff time at the Washington Clean Energy Testbeds. Cool Amps is using this support to demonstrate that its recycling process produces battery-grade cathode and anode-active materials.

SOSV/HAX Funding

Cool Amps closed its pre-seed funding round with SOSV/HAX, a global venture firm and incubator specializing in hard tech. Based in northern New Jersey, HAX partners with startups to help solve and scale technical challenges in the physical sciences.

Through this collaboration, Cool Amps is working to scale its novel electrochemical process for extracting critical metals from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, positioning the company to expand its recycling capabilities and strengthen domestic supply chains.

CSCU Partnership

Cool Amps partnered with the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Center for Nanotechnology through the Werth Industry Academic Fellowship program. Launch of Future Climate Venture Studio

The University of Connecticut, R/GA Ventures, and CTNext officially launched the Future Climate Venture Studio, selecting Cool Amps and five other companies to join its first cohort.

Designed to accelerate scalable climate solutions, the program combines UConn’s research expertise, R/GA’s venture-building and early-stage investment, and CTNext’s innovation network. Participants receive funding, mentorship, and access to UConn’s Innovation Partnership Building, providing both resources and opportunities to commercialize technologies that address pressing global sustainability challenges.
