the corru.store has a new drop!
this one has a bunch of varied stuff, mostly leaning towards EP4 since we had a lot of inspiration for it. but the big standout item is definitely the silver fairy charm… really happy with how it came out, and that we’re able to do it at all!!
]]>This update added new friends, foes, places, and mysteries. Intended to expand the world further, and offer some new recollections!
Features musical collaboration with saiiko2 and NoisyRejects, as well as designs and art support from RainbowCutieo3o and octofoss!
Like other exploration updates, new stuff of varying depth is all over the place in this one, with various converging paths towards a central experience. But in order to see it, you’ll need some new tools from two certain thoughtforms you’re able to bring to a safe place. If you haven’t helped them yet, get to it!
]]>This release is split into two albums - Side A, and Side B. Side A features all work by corru.works and saiiko2, while Side B features all work by NoisyRejects.
Streaming platforms to follow!
]]>This update ended corru.observer’s collapse arc. This episode has been so difficult in so many ways, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
This features a lot of musical work by saiiko2 and NoisyRejects, as well as designs and art support from RainbowCutieo3o!
You can experience it by entering your collapse save again, and going to the golem lobby. If you don’t have an EP3 save, you can use the SELECT system in the menu to start at the beginning of EP4 directly.
“Disabled Gameplay” mode works differently in this episode, still allowing people not interested in the new gameplay to experience the narrative in a cool way!
See patch notes for a full list of other stuff that got changed, too. (no spoilers in here)
Similar to EP3’s release, there are no mask interactions or memory holes to be found - it’s just the main experience. More to come!
If all goes to plan, the next major content update will revolve around exploration outside the embassy. We’re taking a break from this RPG stuff and it should be much less intensive to make as a result.
]]>the corru.store has a new drop! we put together some cool stuff for the corruversary (which is today, by the way) and have our first collab items!
]]>greetings ye purveyors of the works… the odening is here at last! (i named it oden instead cause then it’s four letters like engo… cool)
you can view the changes that oden brings with it here! it’s smaller than Engo, but still has stuff we wanted to do to make the world feel a little bit more alive, and generally just round out different parts of the site!
wasn’t this supposed to be out last month? why did it take so much longer if it has less stuff than engo?
I pivoted to working on EP4 for a little while, because I looked at the calendar and my brain went “holy shit it’s been almost a full year since EP3.” so in order to stay sane, I started drafting and coding parts of EP4!
and to great effect, actually! we have it fully drafted story/dialogue wise, and its new core systems have been prototyped to a state where we’re like “yes, this will be sick >:)”. so, oden was delayed, but this was still a net gain - as a solo writer/coder, sometimes you just have to zigzag a bit to keep moving at full speed!
speaking of which, since I have you here, let’s also chat about Da 2024 Plan so far!!
this was a success, even if it spilled a teensy bit past Q2!
formerly I anticipated EP4 being "early Q3", but this is actually looking more like an August release. that's a few months off from the original estimate, mainly because our ideas for EP4 ended up changing over time before we landed on something we really liked.
still, like I said, we already have it fully drafted and its core system is working nicely - over the next few months, it'll mainly just be a process of putting it together! so I'm pretty confident in the 'August' estimate
i know it's kind of a corruhead famine out there, but this is really necessary - the end of the collapse is a big deal, so we gotta make sure we do it right!
we've got new designs, we've bought art from artists new and old, and so our next drop is pretty much decided and it's gonna have some cool stuff!
but we still have to get test garments, photos, and make sure the cool stuff is actually good! so this will be in the next few months, too - probably before EP4 comes out.
ok :p... OK :b bye :-^ ok bye... see u later...
]]>hello friends! since I’ve completed the critical parts of the engoodening, I made the decision to split it in half so that we can get the important fixes and stuff up ahead of my other plans. thus, we have Engo, The First, and Odening, The Flast.
Engo is up and has all of the important tech stuff I was working on, plus a little extra! notes within
we've been trying to track and solve all instances of firefox-specific flickering - it's a browser-level issue with the 3D rendering that we theorize is related to elements being transformed at angles that the browser doesn't like, since it has nothing to do with usage... really strange!!
if it happens to you, it's typically a flash of white or grey, then your entire browser runs poorly until you fully close and re-open it. it's like FF says "ok nevermind I actually don't want to use the GPU anymore"
it happened before in a few select places, and it should happen less now that we kinda know how to stop it, BUT if it happens to you please let me know where!! send me an email or xweet or something with your resolution and where it showed up
anyway, take a look! enjoy! and beware... Odening lurks over the horizon... they will carry much of the 'fun' parts of the engoodening...
]]>with EP3ADD2 stabilized, the first-ever full-time corru update, I wanted to lay out the plans I have for this year with you! consider this a “state of corru” update and a loose 2024 roadmap of sorts… here’s what’s up!!
these past 3 months, though somewhat darkened by illness and unshared personal tragedy, have been some of the best months of corru.works despite everything!! working full time on corru comes naturally, and I'm really glad I took the chance on this.
but wait - didn't I say I could only do this for like 4-6 months last update? aren't we running out of time? yes! sort of!! but don't worry!
financials are looking good for a while! I've been pretty careful, have a pretty low COL, and have also been getting support from various angles. not to mention the ko-fi and new merch store!!
I'm not going to be making elaborate merch drops every month or anything, but it's a good sign of things to come. all said, my current situation is going to let me continue on full-time for quite a while longer - maybe the whole year - especially if some other things go as planned...
you may have noticed that corru.observer has an oddly small footprint on the internet - this is no accident! not once have we ever tried to reach out for coverage or poked content creators, everything is word of mouth right now.
there are various reasons for this, but one of the most prominent is "the experience is inconsistent and has big flaws" - like it or hate it, u know I'm right!! a number of flaws and annoying quirks throughout the site have always been whispering from the corners of my mind in terrifying goblin voices--"you want to share the site? are you forgetting about us? we will KILL the visitors if you do!! EAHAHAHAA!! [HACKING COUGH] [SPIT ON GROUND]"--and it has come time to pick up my Freaking Keyboard and Bludgeon Them.
this is the first opportunity I've really had where I can take some time to look back at the earliest parts and think, "can we do this better?" for so long, I had been racing against my job burnout, but now we can really do things right.
if you've been following a while, you already know what's up: some very important early parts of the site are drastically less engaging than later parts, the stage system has weird camera issues, chrome has that horrible VRAM flickering on some machines, performance is wack on stages sometimes, and don't even get me started on widescreens...
I could go on, not just because I have a lot of gripes with my own project, but because I have a very specific list of them, split into 4 phases with solutions and execution timelines: "CRITICAL", "SHOULD PROBABLY DO", "NICE", and of course, "BONUS"
so since ADD2 dropped, I've nearly completed the first phase (CRITICAL), consisting of reworking the 3D cameras, fighting vram usage with peak madness in the form of on-stage canvases, and more!! it's the most technical and probably least fun, but it has been fun. what are the other phases? they will be a surprise!!
when complete, it's going to be a non-numbered update: not an ADD, not an EP - simply the "Engoodening." the 'engine' will run better, some sequences will be slightly reworked or improved (especially one scene that's always bugged me that I'm redoing entirely), and generally it should be a much better experience. it'll likely take a few weeks longer to wrap up!
I'm being very intentional in not making it into a 'big thing' that eats up more than that because I really want to move onto EP4. but this is really seriously important stuff!! because once I'm done, that'll be the moment that I'm comfortable sending it out to people more intentionally!
the timeline on EP4 is currently hard to place, but I would expect it like early Q3 maybe (note from future corru - i was wrong) - depends on how hard it is to implement the structure for my insane plans
if ur looking for hints or more info, sorry, but I'll just say it's time for something new 😈
corru.store turned out awesome as I mentioned earlier, but there's a lack of things people have been asking for - stickers, pins, etc... we'll put up more stuff in time! stickers especially are top of da list!
we also want to work with some artists in the community and commission/buy designs for future drops - it could be pretty cool since there are so many talented artists in the community!
regardless, this isn't a topic I'm going to be exploring more deeply until the Engoodening is out at least - we got bigger fish to fry after all!!
ok thank u 4 attending the post-Q1 2024 shareholders meeting, yippeee!! see u later!! wheeaaheaaaeaaaea
]]>corru.store is now open with the first corru.observer merch!! check it out!
corru.observer makes no money through the game itself, so I’ve been trying to find more ways to help fund it (and full-time corru.works)… this seemed like a logical step!!
sorry!! I didn’t like what Fourthwall (merch provider) had to offer for stickers, and the pins have sale minimums, so I wanna make sure we can actually hit those before I give them a shot… but in time!!
]]>With EP3 likely being the last use of the RPG system as-is, this update thoroughly explores it, adding some wild extra gameplay to corru.observer.
This also features songs by saiiko2, and one by DELTANOYZ + NoisyRejects, all of which you’ll hear throughout the journey!
This ADD takes place almost entirely in a single location, is almost 100% gameplay focused, and has a pretty clear ending. Parts of ADD1 are a prerequisite.
Be hungry for knowledge, and seek the lost one.
