Never saw poker well played like this!

I really liked how most things flowed as one could expect, with dice reserved to crucial moments; also, I enjoyed the option lists — just like a gamebook.

Well done, sir.

Oh, that’s a good idea! No, it hasn’t crossed my mind… thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

Raston from The Lizard Man Diaries) using it to run solo scenarios. Has it come across your mind to publish some kind of tutorial on how to do so?

While player-faced rolls are perfectly serviceable, opposed rolls not only carries more tension as you said, but also provides aditional elements to define the outcome, as rolls determine each side’s “performance”.

Let’s say two swordsmen have a climactic duel on the edge of a cliff… if they tie with really high rolls, we get a spectacular standoff — sparks and all, maybe broken swords! If they both roll pretty bad, perhaps they fall off the cliff…

Interesting how the odds for mixed success are still the same… thanks again!

That’s what I feel about them too. Also, while it’s fairly easy to come up with mixed outcomes in melee, or perhaps spellcasting, it is way harder for many other actions; thinking about them in every occasion could bog down play.

Thanks man!

Yes, mixed results are always diegetic, in-world, and totally dependent on what is happening in the situation. Average rolls are a good opportunity for mixed results, but I do not apply this on a regular basis – because if I did, almost the entire session would be filled with mixed results. I find this boring. How often do I use mixed successes? Honestly, this is a gut feeling. If the table is OK with them, I certainly use them more often 😉

Hi! Hm… Sigve Solvaag does this in his 24xx hack “Brutalist”. I asked perplexity about the odds:

The odds for each outcome when rolling 2d6 and taking the higher die are:
Disaster (1-2): About 11.1%
Mixed Success (3-4): About 33.3%
Full Success (5-6): About 55.6%

If the lower die result is taken (2d6, keep lowest):
Disaster (1-2): About 55.6%
Mixed Success (3-4): About 33.3%
Full Success (5-6): About 11.1%

Compare this to regular 24xx:
d6 has 33.3% chance for either disaster, mixed or full success
d8 has 25% chance for both disaster and mixed success, but 50% for full success
d10 has 20% chance for disaster/mixed, and 60% for full success
d12 has 16.7% chance for disaster/mixed, and 66.7 for full success

I honestly like the spreads of the poly dice better…
