‘1Up Tutors’ will provide a subscription based, mobile application service that will allow parents of school children from years Kindergarten to Year 12 to connect and interact with freelance tutors looking to expand or create a student base. Parents will be able to search for a tutor using their iOS device based on multiple search criteria and be able veto prospective student s based on a numerical ratings systems as well as the tutor’s base hourly rate.

Tutors and parents will both be required to register with ‘1Up Tutors’ network via a registration page that will ask the user to enter generic information as well as a profile picture. Once a parent has discovered an appropriate tutor to educate their child/children, the parent can then initiate an in-app chat window with the chosen tutor. This chat window will allow for instant messages to be sent between the two parties, which would then allow them to exchange contact details and organise a lesson for each individual child.

Through extensive research we have identified a gap in the market for a product/service that connects Parents and Tutors for the K-12 Syllabus. Traditionally, parents would find tutors for their children through word of mouth, asking classroom teachers and other parents if they knew specialised, freelance tutors. In the current landscape, this model would be considered outdated and not as efficient as a targeted mobile application.
