Inspiration
Innovation against poverty. Helping those who suffer has been a motivation for us.
What it does
From the app, an user (restaurant, supermarket, etc.) can upload and publish any spare food they have. Then, ONGs or associations can check, from the same app and from the website, the available food. If interested, they can get in touch with the publisher and determine a pick-up.
How we built it
We built an Android app, coded in Java, and a website as well, done with PHP/HTML5 and CSS3. We used Amazon Web Services as a PaaS that allow us communicate constantly.
Challenges we ran into
Dificulties with android and the design because even though the app itself is not very complex, it requires from a relatively complex communication system with our server. Another chalenge was the design of the app, that for time reasons, we couldn’t work enough on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A working cross platform service, that includes a website and a mobile app.
What we learned
We learned how to use the APIs from some projects and we got better at working under pressure. Also, we improved in some langauges that are not our main focus, as everyone had to help each other!
What's next for 7tones
Analyze and study how the potential users use the app, from restaurant owners to ONG members. From there, we can iterate to a more specific solution that can really make a change.
