Inspiration
The inspiration for this project we had multiple inspirations. The increasing wait times, accommodating for the disable and those who cannot wait or make their presence known when contacting first responders while in immediate danger.
What it does
Our application comes with two main functions. One dealing with silent emergencies where victims or (another word for people who seek immediate help) and a reporting function that will help decrease priority queues in 911 calls .
Silent Emergency
The silent emergency function serves as a voice to the voiceless, ensuring that individuals with disabilities or those in difficult situations can contact first responders without encountering barriers. It enables users to receive immediate, high priority assistance without having to call 911 or speaking when it's not possible. Upon activation, the function initiates the recording of both video and microphone feed, which is being actively monitored by the responder. Simultaneously , The user can also send text message, enabling a two-way communication.
Non-Emergency Report
First responder queues and wait times can be lengthy in very dangerous situations where sometimes victims cannot wait. This is where our report function comes in. It shortens call queues by allowing users to report anything that is non-urgent. The user is given options of common reports for ease and the next screen will ask for a prompt for more details.
How we built it
e built the application with Android studios which allowed us to connect the front-end and the backend (cloud Firestore on Firebase).
Challenges we ran into
- Using our NLP Naive Bayes model for classifying prompts
- Geopoint
- Connecting front-end with backend
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of connecting our backend to our frontend as it was a first for us. Equally, our creativity in navigating the challenges to implement this idea is source of considerable pride to us.
What we learned

What's next for 911-Link
Next steps for 911-Link is to build improve our NLP Naive Bayes model to better queue priority reports.
