Produce Pals

Inspiration

Our group noticed the overpowering chain companies and stores that have, over recent years, had more consumers. We wanted to create a place where local markets and farmers could still make a profit and keep their customers. Produce Pals allows more advertisement of local farms that could provide fresh, healthy foods for consumers' diets and keep them in business. This way, farms, family-owned stores, and markets that have existed for generations can keep up with the competitive market in the modern economy.

What it does

Produce Pals allows local farmers to connect across the world. The technology is able to detect your location and connect farmers with other fellow farmers. The website provides step-by-step details on how to join. Once joining, farmers will be able to search for other local farm locations and even view their hours and have access to their phone number as well. Though all questions may not be answered through direct conversations, Produce Pals offers group discussions which can be found through the main menu.

How we built it

We used Wix as our source for creating the website. Wix allowed us to add a map and include addresses along with phone numbers to contact the farms. Furthermore, we were able to use google forms in order to implement a registration for farmers, so they would be able to be added to the map. The UI was also very easy to change due to the many fonts, images, and themes Wix offered. Overall, the multitude of features that Wix has allowed for the building of our idea to become very simple.

Challenges we ran into

Wix was slightly difficult to use when we first began as there were many different features that we had to learn how to use. Also, we did have another idea that we had to scrap as it was not working out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that everything ended up coming together and how we worked together in order to produce a project.

What we learned

We learned how to improve our teamwork, create a website, create appealing visuals, and overcome obstacles.

What's next for Produce Pals

We plan to expand our horizons to a national level and allow for Produce Pals to provide locally-grown, organic foods, giving more people nourishment necessary for good health.
