Inspiration

We all love the weather, but our group felt that current weather apps are too bland and cumbersome, requiring many clicks and searches to find the desired information. AccuMap is a 1-click Web App solution to this problem.

What it does

Users select a point on the map, and AccuMaps generates the location, current temperature, and weather conditions at that point in real time.

How we built it

We combined the Leaflet API and AccuWeather APIs along with a Leaflet plugin to track the cursor's coordinate data.

Challenges we ran into

The Leaflet API did not work well out of the box, and required some hotfixes to display the map. Our team had to learn JavaScript on the fly, and the Leaflet plugin had very poor documentation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

My partner and I were very proud of our progression along the Web App learning curve. Coming in with little to no web programming experience, we utilized our resources effectively throughout the evening and night, eventually becoming proficient enough to create a useful application.

What we learned

JavaScript, Web App Hosting, APIs, plugins.

What's next for AccuMap

A full display of weather data such as future forecasts, customized graphics, faster algorithm/click interaction, CSS styling.
