ADHD Adventure: A Hands-Free Educational Game

Inspiration:

We were inspired to create an educational game that helps children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) learn through interactive and fun gameplay. We combined this with hands-free voice-controlled gameplay to make it more inclusive for specially-abled kids.

What It Does:

ADHD Adventure is an interactive game where students control their characters using their voices. The objective is to answer each question with two options provided. Students can guide their characters to jump or stay based on their answers. If they choose the wrong answer, an enemy starts to chase their character. With two incorrect answers, they lose the game, encouraging them to answer correctly and stay engaged.

How We Built It:

We built the game using Unity, utilizing its features to create an engaging 2D world. The development process involved:

  • Designing characters and environments using graphic design tools.
  • Developing educational content tailored to different age groups, with questions and answers that align with school learning objectives.

Challenges We Ran Into:

  • Incorporating accurate voice recognition, ensuring that the game reliably understands commands.
  • Balancing gameplay with educational content to keep students engaged without distracting from learning.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of:

We are proud of creating a game that combines education and entertainment, helping students learn in a dynamic, hands-free environment. We also implemented a feature where questions are repeated until answered correctly, inspired by popular learning platforms like Duolingo.

What We Learnt:

This project taught us the value of gamification in education. By making learning more interactive and rewarding, we were able to design a system that fosters engagement. We also gained experience in integrating voice recognition to enhance interactivity.

What's Next for ADHD Adventure:

We plan to expand the game by adding new levels and a broader range of question categories. Our goal is to deploy the game on the Google Play Store to make it accessible to a wider audience. We also aim to collaborate with educators to refine the content and make it a comprehensive learning tool for children across various subjects.
