Inspiration
Every day, approximately 1.3 billion tons of edible food is wasted globally, while millions of individuals and families struggle to secure their next meal.
The inspiration behind Aahar stemmed from the pressing need to address the issues of hunger and promote sustainability within local communities.
In order to connect surplus food resources with people in need and to promote an ecosystem of social responsibility and environmental consciousness, we set out on our adventure. Our initiative, ahaaR, is a platform created to fill the gap between people who have access to surplus food and those who do not.
What it does
Aahar connects surplus food providers with volunteers to redistribute food to individuals in need. Through a seamless platform, surplus food is listed, and people can find food nearby, nourishing communities and minimizing waste. This sustainable solution tackles hunger, empowers people to add, and raises awareness about food wastage's dire impact. ahaaR: Filling plates, fostering change. People Earn coins by contributing food and redeeming them for exclusive community eco friendly merchandise! Our dedicated merch store allows easy coin exchange. Receive a special code upon contribution for seamless transactions.
How we built it
ahaaR was made through a dynamic blend of technologies. Python and Flask formed the backbone of our core functionalities, while HTML and CSS were usedto create an intuitive and visually appealing user interface. The integration of MySQL facilitated seamless data management. Furthermore, React and Node.js powered our innovative merchandise platform, where volunteers exchange earned coins for their contributions and can exchange them for rewards. This comprehensive tech stack enabled us to deliver a holistic and sustainable solution to tackle food wastage.
Challenges we ran into
We experienced a tremendous learning curve as we started the process of making ahaaR. React and Node.js, the tools we used to create the platform, were new to our team before the hackathon. As we dug deeper into these new tools, we fell into a variety of difficulties, from syntax mistakes to difficult debugging sessions. An essential crash course in learning React and Node.js was obtained by navigating these frameworks' complexities and solving problems as they arose. Our persistence helped us overcome the initial obstacles and turn each obstacle into a worthwhile learning experience since we were determined to make ahaaR like we desired.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Our team achieved by creating ahaaR from scratch within the hackathon's time limits, despite the difficulties of learning React and Node.js on the fly. Through a creative volunteer rewards system and a merchandising platform, we successfully combined two solutions to fight food waste and promote sustainability.
- As we overcame difficulties, developed new techniques, and dealt with unusual code creation, our flexibility and problem-solving abilities shone. In addition to imparting priceless skills, this thrilling hackathon experience sparked a motivation to continue developing and expanding the ahaaR project, setting us on a path towards a greener future.
What we learned
- We learned the value of quick learning and adaptation through the process of establishing ahaaR. We worked directly with React and Node.js, solving challenges and improving our debugging abilities.
- Our development was powered by group brainstorming and creative problem-solving, and we learned the satisfaction of creating a product that matters and solves actual problems.
What's next for Ahaar
- Looking ahead, our vision for ahaaR involves enhancing GPS features, implementing proximity-based functionality, and establishing a more robust coin and merchandise system to further elevate the user experience. forging partnerships with local businesses and organizations, thereby expanding its impact.
- We are dedicated to refining the volunteer rewards system for enhanced user engagement and extending the merchandise platform's reach. By continuously developing, incorporating user feedback, and implementing technological enhancements, we are committed to scaling ahaaR. Our goal is to make a meaningful impact on reducing food wastage and promoting sustainability.
