Inspiration

The inspiration behind aiccountant. was to apply recent developments in generative AI bridge the gap of complex accounting concepts and financial literacy. We wanted to spin off of the significant global focus to helping individuals understand financial matters, by focusing on one niche, accounting, and create an extremely user-friendly platform to help them. We aimed to leverage the power of generative AI, to quickly to explain accounting topics in a simplified and approachable manner.

What it does

aiccountant. is a web platform that harnesses the capabilities of generative AI through OpenAI's API to facilitate financial literacy by introducing users to accounting! The platform offers an interactive experience where users can learn about various accounting topics, making even the most daunting financial concepts accessible. A key feature of our platform is the integration of a chatbot that provides one-click navigation, navigating users to relevant pages on the website with direct links. This makes it exceptionally easy for users to explore the content available on aiccountant. and learn about accounting.

How we built it

We built aiccountant. as a web application hosted on GitHub and deployed live using Amazon AWS Amplify. The front-end of the website was developed with React, utilizing JavaScript for interactivity and Bootstrap for an attractive and responsive design. For aiccountant.'s server, we employed Node.js for server-side logic. We integrated OpenAI's API to power a navigational chatbot and generate supplementary content to break down hard-to-explain topics, ensuring that the content was accurate and user-friendly. By fine-tuning OpenAI's gpt-3.5-turbo model with the concepts and page routing available on aiccountant., we were able to optimize the models enhancement of the user experience and establish a balance between efficiency, accuracy, and cost.

Challenges we ran into

We overcame several challenges when building aiccountant. The most significant challenges were building the site infrastructure and ensuring the accuracy and clarity of the AI-generated responses. We had to fine-tune the model to provide explanations that were both informative and easy to understand, particularly for individuals with limited accounting knowledge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a user-friendly platform that demystifies accounting for people with all backgrounds and accessibility needs. The technical accomplishments we we're most proud of include implementing page routing, fine-tuning the model to recognize routes/enhance site navigability, and deploying aiccountant. live with AWS Amplify.

What we learned

Through the development of aiccountant., we learned how the power of generative AI in making complex topics accessible. We gained a deeper understanding of financial literacy and accounting, and how to effectively use technology to bridge knowledge gaps. We also improved our skills with web development tools, including React.js, JavaScript, and Bootstrap.

What's next for aiccountant.

We plan to expand the content and features of aiccountant. by adding more advanced Generative AI features, like personalized learning paths, to tailor the user experience to individual needs. Long-term, our vision is to make aiccountant. a comprehensive platform for financial literacy with example-worthy site navigability and ease-of-access.
