Inspiration

AimWise was inspired by the potential of aim training to enhance cognitive skills in elderly individuals with dementia. Adapting the principles of aim training used in gaming to a targeted app for this demographic provides an engaging yet effective tool for cognitive stimulation and improvement.

What it does

Targeted exercises to improve cognitive functions like memory, attention, and focus. I also included gamification elements to make training enjoyable and encourage consistent use. Lastly, I also added progress tracking to monitor improvements over time and provide a sense of accomplishment.

How we built it

AimWise was developed using Python as the sole programming language. The development process involved doing extensive research on the cognitive challenges faced by elderly individuals with dementia and the potential benefits of aim training, designing the app’s architecture and user interface using Python libraries to ensure a smooth user experience. Implementing features that prioritize simplicity and accessibility, making the app approachable for older users who may not be tech-savvy, and testing the app rigorously to ensure it meets the target audience's needs.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the key challenges I faced include: Adapting aim training principles to be suitable and engaging for elderly users with varying cognitive abilities as well as ensuring the app is accessible and intuitive for users who may have limited experience with technology.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

Creating an app that has the potential to significantly improve the lives of elderly individuals with dementia by enhancing their cognitive function and social engagement and developing a user-friendly interface that is accessible and inviting for older users, even those with limited technological experience.

What I learned

The importance of tailoring technology to the specific needs and preferences of the target audience, and the potential for aim training to be adapted for cognitive improvement in populations beyond the gaming community.

Expand the app's reach to help more elderly individuals with dementia improve their cognitive function and quality of life and explore opportunities for integration with other cognitive therapy tools and resources to provide a more comprehensive solution.
