Inspiration
Initially, we team Sierra - 4 planned to create a wireless speaker using Arduino and Node MCU Module to be fixed in our classrooms for listening to news and music during the recess period. But unfortunately last week one of our team mates witnessed a fatal accident. So he at that moment thought , if there was an alert system something nearby or in the close region , that incident might not happened or avoided . So that's how we planned and started ALERTIVE .
What it does
To develop an alert system using embedded system to alert/caution people using cellphones while crossing railway tracks in India. Also, To alert a crowd about an unnoticed fatal event {while crossing roads}.Lastly to make an important public announcement to a noisy crowd. Our alert system powered by a 2amp 5v dc power supply to be fixed anywhere like on an utility pole , post , traffic signal near Railway Stations , Main Roads, etc. Finally a software application to respond to the Hardware alert system and also to give an user-friendly approach to the users.
How we built it
The Arduino and node MCU are interfaced through RX, TX, SCL and SDA Pins.the Speaker is connected to the D6 Pin Of arduino through a PAM Amplifier Circuit.the Push Button is connected to D8 pin of Arduino. Sensors are also connected to Node MCU and Arduino through Digital IO Pins.finally it was integrated with the app.the implemention is fully functional!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Using Arduino as a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) involves low maintenance and also consumes less power as compared to other PLCs Such as PIC, AVR, etc.
- It is also water resistant so it can also be used in rainy conditions
- It also supports 5GHZ wifi bandwidth which will not need a traditional LAN cable(s) for network connectivity
- Swift and quick Communication/Transmission of data through Wireless network
- Node Module to queue the incoming information to reduce the traffic
- The Application can run on Cross Platform-Mobile and Web ## What we learned This was our first time setting up and assembling Hardware components . This week went really useful and happy for us since we were able to achieve what we planned. Connecting Nde MCU Module with Arduino was bit tricky and as we were inexperienced and immature in these domains , it took us too long to deploy . Undertsanding and Learning the connections of Hardware stuffs were quite interesting ! ## What's next for Alertive
- Increasing Security to avoid misuse using RFID AUTHENTICATION.
- The setup can also be powered by solar panels which could be eco-friendly for the environment
- A Database can be added to store the details of users to send them direct communication/Signals.
