Alertr

Alertr is the LifeAlert of the 21st century, for anyone and everyone who may find themselves in a compromising situation where help being just an arm's reach and a phone call away isn't good enough. It removes the bells and whistles of contacting help, stripping them down to the simplest actions possible: pressing buttons on a Pebble smart watch.

Our app has the potential to help any user who would like to wear a GPS-enabled help text or a 911 phone call on their wrist. Our app was specifically designed with students and people our age in mind. There is a staggering number of sexual assaults and rapes that have been inadequately investigated, not only on college campuses, but in an average society. This problem has only escalated and likely will continue to run rampant. Our app aims to counter that proliferation of crime--to heel it before it can even poison another community or take the livelihood, or even life, of another victim. We aim to be a part of rape and assault prevention, and here's how Alertr helps:

Speed-dial 911--a simple two-button protocol will dispatch a phone call to the police from your phone. Even if you can't talk, because you're impaired or compromised in any way, they can determine your location and even potentially hear the background of your conversations. Our app takes an extra security measure to prevent misdials, by forcing the user to confirm their selection via a combination of button selections prior to dispatching a call to 911.
Send a GPS-location-included preset message to a contact of your choice--perhaps your situation doesn't warrant a police presence; yet you still feel unsafe. Alertr has a similar two-button protocol that will send a text message to a person of your choice. Users will use our companion Android app to program that person's name and phone number. When the feature is activated, a message is sent--letting your emergency contact of choice know where you are and that you need help.

Future developments include allowing multiple emergency contacts (up to 5), a voice recording feature that can be activated from Pebble, and message customization via the companion app.

Alertr makes best use of why and how smart watches will streamline and simplify our daily lives. It's straightforward and versatile, potentially serving the needs of many. Alertr is the first defense against assault.
