Inspiration

Millions of people deal with allergies every day, yet most existing apps only provide generic weather or pollen counts. They don’t account for individual sensitivities or symptoms. We wanted to change that by creating a tool that personalizes environmental data, so people can make smarter decisions about their health and daily activities.

What it does

AllergenAI collects each user’s allergy and symptom profile and combines it with real-time weather, pollen, and air quality data from their location. Using this information, our AI agent delivers personalized recommendations and warning, helping users minimize allergic reactions and better plan their day.

How we built it

We used Next.js for the front end and Firebase for authentication and data storage. For real-time environmental information, we integrated the Ambee Pollen API and WeatherAPI. We used the Gemini API to power our AI agent, which takes user-specific allergy and symptom data alongside environmental conditions to generate clear, personalized insights.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges in normalizing and synchronizing data from multiple APIs, ensuring real-time responsiveness without sacrificing accuracy, and designing an interface that communicates risks clearly without overwhelming users. Personalization also added complexity, since recommendations had to adapt dynamically to each user’s unique profile.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a working AI-driven assistant that goes beyond one-size-fits-all alerts. We successfully combined multiple APIs into a unified system that produces actionable, personalized recommendations. And we created a smooth, responsive user experience that adapts to both individual allergy profiles and local conditions in real time.

What we learned

We learned the importance of handling diverse APIs with different formats and update intervals, and how crucial personalization is for users, they value tailored insights over generic data. We also realized that good design is as important as good data, information only makes an impact if it’s communicated clearly and effectively.

What’s next for AllergenAI

Next, we plan to expand our allergen database to cover more triggers, add predictive modeling to forecast high-risk days, and build cross-platform support with proactive notifications. Our goal is to make AllergenAI a trusted companion for anyone managing allergies, helping them take control of their health every single day.
