Inspiration
From the beginning, we knew we wanted to focus on mental health and create a hack surrounding that topic. After discussing we came to the same point that learning how to help your loved ones when they're down is not easy. You want to empathize with them, but that's much easier said than done. We wanted to find a solution to that helpless feeling we all get at times, which brought us to AllyWell.
What it does
AllyWell is a web application providing valuable information on how to support friends, family, and loved ones during their mental health and illness struggles. There is a large emphasis on education, allyship, and support that is catered for each person and illness. We hope that with the tools and info from our website, more people can become the best allies possible.
How we built it
We collaborated using Repl.it and used mainly HTML and CSS files. We spent some time narrowing down a colour palette, fonts, and researching about different aspects of mental health. From there, it was all about formatting our site and making it look as clean as possible.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out how to integrate google fonts took a little bit of time, and connecting our CSS to a specific HTML file also proved to be difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was the first hackathon for 3/4 of our team members and all of our first times submitting a project to a hackathon! It wasn't easy but we're very proud of our finished product.
What we learned
Working with new people and a lot more about HTML and CSS!
What's next for AllyWell
Overall, we would love to grow our website and add many new features. A donations page and collaborations with larger mental health organizations are just some that we would like to see in our future.
