🚑 Project Altrix
Intelligence layer for clinical readiness
Inspiration
Nurses don’t get a fraction of the care or respect they deserve.
Hospitals do not fail loudly. They fail quietly.
Nurses carry long shifts, emotional strain, understaffing, and constant cognitive load, yet most healthcare systems are designed to monitor patients, not the people caring for them.
When fatigue, stress, and poor recovery stack up, small errors compound into burnout and patient risk. Altrix exists to support nurses before things go wrong.
What it does
Altrix is a clinical readiness command center for charge nurses and supervisors.
It:
- Ingests real wearable data via Terra and Apple Health exports
- Analyzes six research-backed physiological parameters
- Converts raw signals into green / yellow / red readiness bands
- Aggregates nurse readiness into unit-level risk visibility
- Generates concise, non-diagnostic operational insights
- Sends proactive alerts when safety thresholds are crossed
- Detects mistreatment events and provides supportive nurse feedback
How we built it
Frontend
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Command-center UI with zero-scroll critical views
- Color-banded readiness indicators for instant interpretation
Backend
- Python + Flask API
- Modular ingestion pipeline
- Personal baseline normalization for each nurse
Wearable & Intelligence Layer
- Terra API for wearable aggregation
- Apple Health data exports
- OpenAI for constrained, clinically grounded analysis
- ElevenLabs for safety-aware voice processing
Notifications
- Pushover for real-time alerts
Challenges we ran into
CORS and API orchestration
Getting Terra, Apple Health exports, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, and notifications to communicate securely and reliably was one of the biggest technical challenges.
Clinical safety boundaries
We had to ensure outputs were operational and supportive without diagnosing or prescribing.
UI restraint under pressure
Healthcare dashboards often overwhelm. Designing something that reduces stress took discipline.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
- Built a full end-to-end healthcare intelligence system
- Integrated real wearable data pipelines
- Grounded every parameter in published clinical research
- Designed a calm, command-center-grade UI
- Created a nurse safety feature focused on dignity and encouragement
- Maintained strict ethical and clinical guardrails
What I learned
- Early signals matter more than loud alerts
- Good healthcare tools feel invisible when they work
- Constraints increase trust, not limitation
- Systems should adapt to humans, not demand more from them
- Eleven Labs is amazing
- Generative AI coupled with one another creates significant impact
What’s next for Project Altrix
- Expansion into first responders, firefighters, and EMS
- Industrial and aviation shift-readiness applications
- Longitudinal baseline learning over weeks and months
- Shift-aware workload modeling
- Secure, role-based enterprise deployment
- Broader wearable ecosystem support
Built With
