Inspiration
Dementia/Alzheimer is a syndrome, usually of a chronic or progressive nature, caused by a variety of brain illnesses that affect memory, thinking, behaviour and ability to perform everyday activities.
The number of people living with dementia worldwide is currently estimated at 50 million and will almost triple by 2050. A new case of Demntia/Alzheimer is diagnosed every 3 seconds The High Cost of the disease will challenge health systems to deal with the predicted future increase of cases. A diagnosis may well provide long-awaited answers for a failing memory, communication problems and changes in behaviour.
An early diagnosis opens the door to future care and treatment. It helps people to plan ahead while they are still able to make important decisions on their care and support needs and on financial and legal matters. It also helps them and their families to receive practical information, advice and guidance as they face new challenges
What it does
We have Designed an App that compares the navigational performance on male and female volunteers of all ages and It will detect People’s Risk of Alzheimer’s. If Someone has a memory problem or a thinking problem then we do some very specific testing at the baseline testing which would include different tests. We will be studying how people who are pre-disposed to Alzheimer's disease, Performs the test, compared to people who are not. As players attempts the quiz, We will be able to translate the score of test into Scientific data. We will record normal scores in their answers to traditional neuropsychological surveys. However, comparing their performance to those who are healthy of the same age, gender and country of origin will highlight changes in navigational habits even before clinical Alzheimer's symptoms appear. These results show for the first time how large-scale digital cognitive testing could hold potential for the early detection of Alzheimer's disease and help in personalized testing processes to diagnose the illness in individuals showing no clinical symptoms. The app has a section where users can add their contact details and address in case they forget their way back home.
Features and How we built it
AlzHelp is a mobile application built using Flutter and Dart whose main job is to detect the signs of Alzheimer's Disease. It is a Digital diagnostic tool that detects sign of early memory impairments related to Alzheimer's Disease. We provide the various functionalities listed below:
- 25-MCQ Quiz based on standardized test like SAGE,MOCA for alzeihmer detection which test person's cognitive ability by using various methods
- The data of the person can be saved to the profile which can be accessed later,on other phone using same emailid.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we faced was of time-management. we had tons of ideas to implement and not enough time to complete them all because of final exams. More than once we were forced to revert back to previous commits. That combined with the fact that we were unable to provide all the functionality that we wanted to,was the biggest challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our AlzHelp app is 95% effective at identifying dementia, according to studies(Studies called the CDR a reliable test, especially useful for assessing change over time.).It is probably the best test a person can take at home to identify possible dementia through our app.
What we learned
New software and technologies of which some of us knew nothing before. Mobile application development is a domain none of us had explored much before,we broadened our knowledge's scope via this project, and came out the better for it.
Another thing we learnt was how to support our teammates and work as a team, morally and technically, learn and grow together.
What's next for AlzHelp
The app will be able to perform various tasks, including health checks. The app will have reminder alerts that allow users to set tasks for the day or what tasks they want to assign to their carers. It also has a photo wallet and facial recognition feature that allows patients to identify family members and carers. Memory Haven comes with an in-built memory game that allows users to improve their cognitive ability by putting their memory to test. It has a call button that can place a direct call to family members and carers.
