Increasing Incidence of Alzheimer's: The increasing incidence of Alzheimer's disease worldwide has led to a growing need for solutions that can help patients and their caregivers manage the condition. With the number of people with Alzheimer's expected to triple by 2050, according to the World Health Organization, there is a clear need for innovative technologies that can support patients and their families.
What it does
Once the patient registers on the app, their location is constantly tracked. The doctor can then enter the monitor feature and set a radius that is geofencing around. If the patient is within the range, the radius is green in color. But if the patient goes beyond the set radius, the radius turns red and a constant warning sound is played until the patient comes within the range. This ensures that the patient is always safe and within the doctor's monitoring range.
How we built it
We have built it using React Native as it is a mobile application. To track the location we use Google maps API.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring Data Privacy and Security: As "Alzheimy" involves tracking the location of Alzheimer's patients, ensuring the privacy and security of this sensitive data is crucial. The app must be designed with strong security measures to protect against potential data breaches or misuse.
Accurate Location Tracking: The app's effectiveness depends on the accuracy of its location tracking technology. The development team may have had to fine-tune the app's tracking algorithms to ensure the patient's location is accurately recorded at all times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to build what we aimed of. We are humble that we built the application such that the guardian is able to continuously track the patient with constant notifications and alarms.
What we learned
We've learnt how to connect google maps api to react native application.
What's next for Alzheimy
Panic Button: A dedicated button on the app that the patient can press if they feel unsafe or need assistance. This can trigger an immediate alert to the caregiver or emergency services. Fall Detection: If the patient falls or experiences a sudden impact, the app can automatically detect this and notify caregivers. Medication Reminders: The app could also include reminders for the patient to take their medications on time. Daily Activity Tracking: The app could track the patient's daily activity levels, such as steps taken or calories burned, to help caregivers monitor the patient's overall health and well-being.
