Inspiration

We wanted to make a social media platform specifically for artists because many artists struggle with gaining traction on popular platforms. This can be discouraging and lead to less motivation and/or income from their art, so we designed Bytes of Creativity in a way that would encourage artists to keep making art while also helping them gain reach. Having an app-wide weekly challenge prompt and spotlighting the previous winners would achieve both of these goals.

What it does

Users can create an account and log in, and view the pages listed below.

We implemented the frontend for the following pages and have developed the basis for the backend, but intend to further expand on them in the future: home page (with placeholders for challenge winners and prompts), view post (includes like and report functionality), create post with a title and description, and profile page. We also intend for users to be able to follow others.

What would have made Bytes of Creativity unique compared to other social media platforms is that it would have had an AI-generated weekly challenge prompt for artists to participate in, where the top three winners are determined by the amount of likes.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many issues with styling as well as setting up the backend. We had to do lots of research because we were unfamiliar with some of the tools we wanted to use for this project, such as React and Firebase.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our workflow as we were able to split up the work easily. We are also proud of how we utilized each team member's strengths.

What we learned

Since some of us had limited experience with web development, we gained experience with the languages.
