Inspiration
With Covid around, it's not always easy for people to go out and grab the essentials at times. People with a compromised immune system particularly rely on friends and family for their everyday stuff but at times we are in a city where we don't know anyone. Seeing those hardships by the numerous people around us, we came up with an online solution - Aptizr!
What it does
Aptizr allows a user to leverage volunteers to help them get groceries when they can't get out of their house. A user can create a profile and either choose to request help or volunteer to help others. A user can also choose a location so that the list of volunteers in that area are notified of the new requests!
How we built it
We split our work into front-end & back-end. We used react framework to create our simple and consistent UI that allows each action to be at a tip of a click. In the backend, we used a NodeJs server with mongoDB for storage and used axios to perform HTTP requests between the client & server.
Challenges we ran into
Our members had not used nodejs & mongodb so learning them used a good chunk of our time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was the first hackathon for a couple members and producing such a great result for a first timer is the proudest thing. To add to it, we're proud of our collaboration skills and the learning we did during this hackathon.
What we learned
We learned, -how to create a multi-page web-app in react. -how to create a nodejs server, -how to create a mongoDB connection and NoSQL db operations. -how to connect front-end with the back-end using axios.
What's next for Aptizr
Well, our project is far from perfect, we'll be working on polishing our backend to store data more securely and adding tokenized authentication.
