Inspiration

Our inspiration for AquaRides comes from the ride-sharing industry and the desire to enhance the nautical experience for sailors and enthusiasts. We saw an opportunity to merge the convenience of ride-sharing, the importance of real-time weather information, and an innovative approach to health management for sailors.

What it does

AquaRides is an all-in-one nautical companion that connects sailors, provides real-time weather updates, and offers an innovative health-conscious feature. It simplifies trip planning, enhances safety, and ensures you're always prepared for your maritime adventures.

How we built it

We built AquaRides using Vanilla HTML,CSS and JavaScript. The app integrates user-friendly interfaces with a working backend system for the ride scheduling to deliver a seamless and reliable experience.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of AquaRides, we faced various challenges, from integrating complex weather data to learning new design concept, user experiences and a little bit of React too. We also learned how to properly integrate APIs into our project. Overcoming these obstacles required creativity and teamwork.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have created an innovative platform that not only connects sailors but also prioritizes their safety and well-being. AquaRides has the potential to transform the nautical industry and create a community of health-conscious and well-prepared sailors.

What we learned

Throughout this journey, we've learned the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the significance of user-centric design. Additionally, we learned more about the web-dev situation and realized that it was more than just designing websites; we learned how the backend works, how APIs work, and most importantly, we've gained valuable insights into the maritime industry and the needs of users.

What's next for AquaRides

The future of AquaRides is exciting! We plan to expand our features, add more community-driven functionalities, and partner with nautical organizations to further enhance the experience for our users. We strongly hope to have a collaboration with Uber because they can significantly help us improve our project and build a more robust web-app. Our vision is to become the ultimate platform for sailing enthusiasts worldwide.

Landing Page Update: I took charge of revamping the landing page, giving it a fresh and aesthetic look.

Weather Widget: I developed the weather widget, which is a crucial component of AquaRides. This widget provides real-time weather updates, ensuring that sailors have the information they need for safe journeys.

Login Form: I designed and implemented the login form, making it user-friendly and secure. It's the first point of interaction for users, so I ensured that it's easy to use and visually appealing.

Health Widget: Creating the health widget was another significant aspect of my contribution. This widget prompts users to share their medical status and medication information, enhancing their well-being while sailing.

Integration: I played a key role in connecting all these elements together, ensuring they work seamlessly within the AquaRides platform. This involved integrating the weather widget, login form, and health widget to provide a cohesive user experience.

Learning: Throughout the project, I had the opportunity to learn about API calls and basic JavaScript, which were essential for various functionalities. Additionally, I gained insights into the creative aspects of web design, improving my skills in creating visually appealing and user-centric web pages.

My initial task was to get our godaddy/porkbun domain integrated with google cloud however after getting most of google cloud set up, I was unable to get our actual files to display on the site. After much trial and error we decided it would be best to refactor our website and publish it using GitHub pages. I also helped our team to understand GitHub source control at a base level. I started working on the backend class that would hold accounts (note the HashMap was a temporary solution as Github pages is not compatible with MySQL or other databases). I also created classes Passenger and Driver to set each user as one of the 2 account types. This was one of my first times working with JavaScript and I'm very new to web development. So while this project was intimidating and we didn't accomplish as much as we initially set out to, I'm glad to have gained the knowledge and experience I did from this.
