Our matching outfit effect
What it does
The outfit consists of 3 different 3D objects. Each 3D object takes in a colour from a different colour sampling point: One on the chest of the user, another one next to their feet and one next to the users head. This is creating a constantly adapting and changing look!
How we built it
The look for AR Camo has been first sketched on the i-pad and then translated into a 3D model via Blender. The resulting model was matched to the 3D mannequin provided by Lens Studio to be used for the External Mesh feature. Once inside lens studio, we set up 3 locations where the colours for the look should be sampled (next to Head, Chest, next to Legs), each of the 3D elements that make up the outfit, got one of the colour samples assigned.
Challenges we ran into
The External Mesh feature often creates deformations in abstract 3D models such as the one we created for this Hackathon. Many small adjustments in the 3D model needed to be made till it looked good. It would be great if the External mesh feature somehow enables the creator to access the Weight Painting points and adjust them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have created a unique and adaptable, Gender Neutral look that will always look different whatever the user is wearing in Real life and what environment they are standing in. It is flexible, transformative and sustainable fashion experience.
What we learned
How to push the way we can use fashion as a medium to create new ways of interacting with AR + the real world.
