The Problem

There are many softwares offering helpful apps to book a drivers online, upload, and connect with family and friends all over the world. Particularly for the older adults generation, they can find senior discounts and even be reminded for medication on their phone. However, the majority of this demographic are discouraged by the technological competency required to use such apps. With this in mind, our primary objective is to create a mobile app that functions as a plug-in to guide tech beginners, especially the older population, to navigate and familiarize themselves with digital interfaces.

In summary, these are the pain points of our target demographic:

  • Free access to advanced softwares but lack of tech competency
  • Discouraged by unfamiliarity with digital interface

Introducing ARA

ARA is an intuitive and powerful app extension that provides friendly tutorials for various apps to familiarize users to the navigation of digital interfaces. ARA also provides custom-paced, step by step instructions in bite-sized pieces.

Highlighted features

We created a 3D model of our original mascot–ARA the armadillo. The interactive mascot uncurls when users tap on it for guidance. The animation also indicates a call to action.

How we built it

We used Figma to prototype ARA. Additionally, we used Spline and Adobe Ai to create a 3D model mascot.

Challenges we ran into

Creating different iterations of our 3D mascot in order to make it interactive. Creating an adorable and eye-catching mascot that users would love.

What we learned

We learned more about our demographic, their preference, and their behaviours. We also learned how to do prototypes in Figma.

What's next for ARA App Extension

We would like to have a wider reach so that ARA is not limited for the older generation’s demographic. For instance, the app could be to apps such as the studentcentre to aid fresh high school graduates of international and domestic students alike to transition to the software’s confusing interface.

We would also like to be able to include a language translator feature, so that ARA can guide and reach users from different parts of the world.
