Inspiration
Health and fitness, community, and environment inspired us to do this project. In our group, we have someone who works out a lot and was able to provide what fitness apps nowadays do not have enough of.
We used the name Ares to represent a god of battle, as when you're working out you're battling your mind to stay motivated and to keep going.
What it does
The app does not have all of its features fully implemented at the moment. For now, what really works is a single muscle group on a diagram is clickable, with a good UI baseline for the design of the app, with a Profile, Home, and Workout screen.
How we built it
We used React-Native to create this project for the front end, and we planned on implementing our own REST API with Go and MySQL, however, the back-end portion was cut short for a couple of hours and was not able to be implemented because the person responsible felt ill for a portion of the hackathon.
Challenges we ran into
As I said above, one of our group members felt ill for a large portion of the hackathon, so the back end that we planned on implementing does not work at the moment, also that means that I cannot talk about the issues that occurred in the back end. For the front end in React Native, the biggest feature of the app for users was the workout information based solely on specific muscle groups, this means that having a diagram of the human body with muscles with the ability to intuitively press and any muscle group they wanted to start working on it, however, this is easier said than done. We have to implement an SVG into React-Native and we had to by hand separate a photo online into specific parts, then implement them into SVG code and instantiate functionality for each muscle group as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As we said, the muscle group diagram having some functionality is what I am proud of.
