AsterionConnect
Inspiration
AsterionConnect was born from a desire to solve two key problems. First, many people struggle to achieve their financial goals, whether it be savings, entrepreneurship, or homeownership. Second, the loan and credit process is often complex and time-consuming for both banks and users. We wanted to create a platform that motivates users to stay on track with their goals while also offering a streamlined way for institutions like Capital One to help users achieve those goals by simplifying loan and credit processes.
What it does
AsterionConnect is a platform where users can share their financial goals, such as saving, starting a business, or owning a home. Friends can view, like, and comment words of encouragement on each other's goals. For users with entrepreneurship goals, the app provides an AI-powered SWOT analysis to help identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Additionally, the platform includes a news and learning section to keep users informed and educated. On the back end, Capital One can access user goals (with permission) to accelerate lending and credit decisions, reducing friction for both the bank and its customers.
How we built it
For the front end, we used TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Tailwind to create a smooth, responsive user interface. The news section was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for simplicity and quick updates. On the back end, we used Flask to manage requests and Firebase for storage and authentication. Python was extensively used to handle API integrations, manage requests, and tailor personalized results like the AI-powered SWOT analysis.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was defining the specific details of the solution. Each team member had their own vision of how the platform should look and function, which led to some initial misalignment. After extensive discussions, we were able to consolidate everyone’s ideas and agree on the final project direction, which ultimately improved the solution and strengthened our teamwork.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of how we’ve been able to merge two distinct challenges—helping users stay accountable to their financial goals and simplifying loan processes for banks—into a single platform. The seamless integration of AI for SWOT analysis, along with the ability for users to interact with their friends and receive feedback, was a major win for our team. We’re also proud of the secure and compliant data exchange between users and Capital One.
What's next for Asterion Connect
Moving forward, we aim to expand AsterionConnect by adding more personalized financial tools and resources. Another potential feature is gamification, where users can earn rewards for hitting their milestones, further motivating them to achieve their financial goals.
