Inspiration
We were interested in making a VR game and giving kids a fun and exciting way to learn how to code.
What it does
AstroCode VR is an Oculus Rift Game that teaches the player how to code in a fun and exciting way. The game is set in a kid's room in which the player's imagined astronaut is stranded away from earth. Players must connect blocks of code together to write programs that will move their astronaut character back to earth.
How we built it
Using Oculus Unity API and VR Toolkit
Challenges we ran into
- Providing a smooth VR experience
- Having the code blocks snap together
- Giving the code blocks functionality
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building our first VR game
- Creating smooth animations and atmosphere
- Developing a pleasant VR experience
- Collaborating on VR game creation
What we learned
- How to develop a VR game
- How to create smooth game animations
- How to work collaboratively on a complex project
What's next for AstroCode VR
- Dynamic level designs requiring more complex programming
- More types of code blocks for more elaborate programs
- Exciting events that the player must handle in VR
