Inspiration
The interest in space has fallen of dramatically, especially amongst young children the NASA eyes on asteroids does a good job at visualizing asteroids but it highly complex and uninteresting for many younger, whose attention span is at a low.
What it does
Astros graphs the asteroids closest to earth on a given date and graphs then in a simple, no-nonsense and intuitive way such that children of young ages can understand it really simply.
How we built it
We have a JavaScript, CSS and HTML based front end that connects to our backend API written in Python using Flask. We have used D3 a low-level graphing library to plot the asteroids relative to earth
Challenges we ran into
As CSS doesn’t have a simple co-ordinate system, we had to learn to implement D3
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our progress with accurately mapping the asteroids relative to earth in a simple way.
What's next for Astros
We plan on adding more features like having mini games on each asteroid and include other celestial bodies in the graphing
