Inspiration

Being an engineering student, I and my teammate find it very difficult to study from textbooks without knowing the specific object in detail. We always thought of something that could make learning fun and easy for tech students! Now since the pandemic has forced everyone for self-learning, we thought of creating an application where all graduates can find it easy to look clearly what they are studying. A 3D model representation of things that are to be carefully studied helps a lot in remembering them. Why Saṁvedaḥ- it is a Sanskrit word for knowledge seeker!

What it does

Our Augmented Reality based app Saṁvedaḥ can be used by students with their traditional textbooks. This app will help students to visualize the three-dimensional representation of the entity they are learning about. This app allows understanding the concepts easily and way better than just seeing the 2d pictorial format of the subject. The basic requirement of the app will be an Android phone or tablet on which our app will run.

How we built it

We built Saṁvedaḥ with Unity 3D game engine, C# script and Vuforia SDK. The Unity game engine was used to build the user interface of the application. The app uses scripts written in C# in order to coherently combine all the pages.

Challenges we ran into

Exploring Unity3D for our requirements was tough. We didn't find many resources for C# language which solved our errors which meant we were on our own. Also integrating AR into the picture was pretty challenging. Due to heavy software like Unity and our low configuration laptop, we faced several problems like our laptop got hanged or got stuck.

What we learned

We learned how to 3D model objects and animate them in our educational augmented reality app. We also learned how to utilize Unity to make the augmented reality app using Unity's feature set and Vuforia, stringing it all together with C# script.

What's next for Saṁvedaḥ

In the future, we want to expand Saṁvedaḥ in the following ways: 1.We would add more images to the application. 2.Change model, make better animations. 3.Add sound effects.
