Inspiration
Managing medications can be confusing and overwhelming, especially for individuals with complex regimens or limited health literacy. We wanted to create a tool that simplifies this process, improves adherence, and empowers users to take control of their health using cutting-edge augmented reality technology.
What it does
Augmented Rx is an app that uses AR to revolutionize medication management. Users can scan their prescription bottles to access 3D visual instructions on dosage, timing, and interactions. The app also provides personalized reminders, tracks adherence, and uses AR overlays to identify pills and provide real-time information.
How we built it
We developed the app using ARCore for Android and ARKit for iOS to power the augmented reality features. The backend is supported by a secure cloud database for user data and medication details, integrated via APIs. We used React Native for cross-platform compatibility, ensuring a seamless experience for all users.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was accurately recognizing and overlaying AR visuals on various prescription bottles and pills. Another was ensuring the app complies with privacy laws and healthcare regulations. Finally, designing a user-friendly interface that caters to all demographics was critical but challenging.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
We’re proud to have created an app that simplifies a critical aspect of healthcare. Our accurate AR overlays, seamless user interface, and integration of advanced features like pill identification set our app apart. Most importantly, we’re excited about the potential impact on users’ lives.
What we learned
We learned how to combine healthcare knowledge with AR technology effectively. We also gained insight into the importance of accessibility and compliance in healthcare apps, as well as the challenges of building an intuitive and scalable solution.
What’s next for Augmented Rx
Next, we aim to integrate voice assistance for hands-free navigation and expand the app to support wearable devices. We also plan to partner with pharmacies and healthcare providers to offer prescription refills and direct communication with doctors through the app, creating a truly comprehensive medication management tool.
