Inspiration: We were brainstorming ideas and one of us came up with it. We decided that it fit all the criteria.
What it does: It uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect when a person walks in the doorway which triggers a servo motor to turn the light switch on and off.
How we built it: We first used the Arduino kit, but then used our own parts from home to build it.
Challenges we ran into: Well, it didn't work at least 200 times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We experimented with a lot of different parts and are proud that we were able to program a servo motor and ultrasonic sensor with little experience.
What we learned: How to program aruindo using C++.
What's next for AutoMatic Lightswitch 1000: Use a motion sensor for better input and more reliable input
