Inspiration
I really love balatro and have had ideas for some cards for awhile. Not only that, but its a great way to show off the LGBTQ+ community and some lesser known symbols
What it does
It is a Balatro that is intended to add 30 new jokers like Gay and Trans Pride, Closet and Coming Out, and even Blahaj :)
How we built it
I built it by using another mod, ClipsJokers, as a bit of a template. I used the game files of the original as well as other mods to help with seeing different aspects of it.
Challenges we ran into
A lot. I wasn't at all familiar with Lua so some of it was a bit of an adjustments, when to place commas was certainly something. A mispelling mistake caused me to get stuck in progress for over 6 hours, and... the game not cooperating with me to put in a reimagined Blahaj for the last day of the hackathon certainly didn't help. I tried my best to come up with designs so that I didn't feel completely stuck, but it was annoying.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I made 5 cards! My goal was one and my highest of highest hopes was all 30, but 5 is something I'm happy about. I also made art for about 11 or 12 of the cards.
What we learned
Coding is annoying. It's fun when it works, and hurts when it doesn't. But just because it sucks and hurts, that doesn't mean you should give up and stop working.
What's next for Balatrans
I want to fully adapt this into a mod. It has 6 of 30 cards in the game (5 of which working properly).
