Inspiration
We were inspired by websites like Discord and Reddit where people with similar interests can form communities. We hope to create a community for people who want to keep the Earth safe and green.
What it does
Users get new challenges every day to help keep the Earth clean and green. They can also talk to others with similar interests about challenges.
How we built it
We used React and Firebase to build the website. We only found out about this hackathon 3 days before it was due so we worked late into the night to create the best product we could.
Challenges we ran into
None of us were too familiar with Firebase but wanted to learn it. We struggled a bit with the syntax and no SQL database style since we are more familiar with traditional SQL databases.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the website style and think it fits the theme well.
What we learned
We learned quite a bit about Firebase and the advantages and disadvantages of SQL vs no SQL databases
What's next for BeGreen
We hope to add a subscription system where users can enter their phone numbers so we can text them new challenges every day.
