Better With Binary

Inspiration

The inspiration comes from us assessing what we ourselves thought would help us maintain a good mental state. This later sprouted into the discord bot which gives healthy reminders and helps people keep a positive outlook on a day-to-day basis. Then we looked at longer issues that may go beyond just mindset and healthy habits. Most of us have experienced or seen mental disorders so we decided to make something to help people assess if they might be experiencing one as well and that is what developed into the website.

What it does

Our project aims to be a key resource in helping people. By having 2 simple-to-use tests, we are able to help inform and create awareness for certain problems that may arise (or are arising). Knowing that every problem has a solution, we decided to create a Discord Bot to improve someone's mental health. Our bot can send motivational quotes, send positive messages, and reminders to keep someone healthy (just to name a few).

How we built it

We used a variety of different programming languages to create our project. For our discord bot, we primarily used the Python language. With our website, we used HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Inorder to host our website, we decided on using Heroku.

Challenges we ran into

In our journey of creating this amazing project, we came face to face with multiple obstacles and challenges. For instance, we had some trouble working with Heroku website hosting, Replit integration, and discord.py client. However, we were able to overcome all of these challenges by working together and brainstorming numerous clever solutions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are truly proud of making a discord bot that is capable of sending timely reminders for improving mental health and giving multiple uplifting command functions. In addition, we were very proud of our work with the depression and anxiety testers.

What we learned

We learned various different things about the intricacies of mental health and creating a simple yet complex discord bot. As well, we learned more about how to design a practical and easy-to-use website interface.

What's next for Better With Binary

For the future of our project, we hope to add more personal features and create a personalized connection with our users. As well, we wish to expand our care options and capabilities to fit the needs of more people.
