Inspiration

We wanted to create an accessible space where people who are stressed about the environment can take initiative to make a positive impact.

We were inspired by the idea of a site specifically for environmental and community service meeting purposes, rather than having such things be drowned out by the volume of other kinds of events on other platforms.

What it does

It brings together like-minded individuals who wish to improve the environment and gives them informational resources about how to do so.

How we built it

We built it with Velo by Wix on EditorX. We also specifically used their collections.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some issues with finding how to do things on Wix, specifically, sometimes we would look up how to do something, but what we found would say we couldn't, yet apparently, we could just in code and not with the drag and drop. This was especially an issue with making the opportunities list searchable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have a semi-functioning website, with a functioning database.

What we learned

We learned to try other possible combinations of words on google for what we want to do, and not believe people when they say you can't do things until we have exhausted those options.

What's next for betterplanet

Next for betterplanet would be to allow closed events, tracking of attendees, add tags to the database, do more checks o the validity of what people are entering into the form (i.e the location is a full address), and add a moderated forum for people to put environmental information and resources.
