Inspiration
The homework gap is a very important problem in the world. Not only that, but information gap in general. While most people nowadays have quick access to information through the Internet, nothing compares to the services and tools provided by a library.
What it does
By crowdsourcing data about local libraries, users can learn about what if available to them if they obtain a library card. Each library info page also contains the link to register online for easy access. This streamlines the decision and process of getting a library card, which quickens the closing of the information gap.
How I built it
I used HTML and CSS, as well as information from different library systems.
Challenges I ran into
I didn't anticipate for library websites to have such different site setups, so navigating through them wasn't very consistent. I also didn't think that getting the information needed would have been hard, but it took me almost half an hour just to verify and check information for one library.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of the fact that I built this by myself, and that I plan on keeping up with this after the hackathon. My time management skills were definitely tested, but I came through.
What we learned
I learned that it isn't easy to get information very quickly, which really strengthened my will to keep going with the project to make it easy for people to get library cards.
What's next for BiblyTech
I plan on keeping up with BiblyTech throughout my college career, maybe even enlisting the help of friends in order to get help for upkeep and the general betterment of the platform. BiblyTech may not be lucrative, but I believe that it can bring a positive effect to many people.
