Inspiration

We were inspired by the challenge to use an Intel Edison to build a well-being-improving hack and by our passion for cycling.

What it does

We made a tachometer using a infrared proximity sensor and mounted it on a bicycle. This collects data that is processed by the Edison and sent to two places; an LCD speedometer display mounted on the handlebars, and a website for tracking metrics.

How we built it

Data recorded by the Edison is passed serially to an Arduino connected to the speedometer to provide real-time feedback. Data is also recorded as CSV files and processed by the web interface, providing interactive charts of all past rides.

Challenges we ran into

We almost had the website hosted on the Edison, but ran into some issues with Apache, PHP, and Yocto Linux.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What we learned

Next time, we will start our hack before 2am.. whoops.
