Inspiration

Living in a town where bikes are widely used. A lot of our friends were searching for bikes, looking for specific models they see throughout campus. Unfortunately, buying a bike is a complex process and our goal is to simplify that by providing our solution.

What it does

Our team has developed a web application that takes a picture as an input and reads the text off the bike, identifies the company and manufacturer of that bike model and displays a page where the user can easily buy that model of that specific bike. In terms of the development process, we integrated our website with python code.

How we built it

We created a website and integrated that with the python code that we developed. We used optical character recognition.

Challenges we ran into

We were fairly new to programming and we couldn’t integrate the machine learning algorithms to find the specifications of the bike, so we used the basic optical character recognition algorithm to recognise the text/company manufacturer of the bike. The web application was built using HTML, Flask, javascript and CSS (bootstrap).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a freshmen team, we worked and learned new languages and integrated python and HTML programs. Finally, submitting a complete project was very rewarding.

What we learned

We learned the fundamentals of Python, HTML, and Machine Learning as well as integration of the Websites with programming languages like Python.

What's next for BikeREC

In the future, we would like to implement the machine learning algorithm to find the specifications of every bike. We are also aiming to develop a mobile application for the user's convenience.
