Inspiration
According to recent data from top streaming service Netflix ; 70% of the users on the platform binge watch shows. A large chunk of the viewership comes from the youth age groups in between 15-27 years. We incorporated a chrome extension to help you control your binge habits with the help of a reward system. Based on points gained from tasks that simulate physical / mental activity, you can earn watch time which can be used to keep you accountable for the watch time.
What it does
Binge Control allows users to stay sharp before binging their favorite show by making them play a quiz which rewards them credits which are used as watch time. The chrome extension tracks your time spent on the website and sends it to the appwrite backend. The appwrite updates the time used into the Database and subtracts the current credit limit in store.
How we built it
We built it with
- Express.js
- Appwrite
- Npm
- HTML/CSS/JS
Challenges we ran into
- Initially we planned on integrating google fit and tracking your physical activity stats to reward points, but we ran into issues while configuring google fit with the appwrite backend in order to track specific users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We gave our best to implement a binge control system in the form of a chrome extension that helps you control your binging habits.
What's next
- Add more websites to track, with more customizing options
- Setup lap-timers to interrupt binge watches at a specific time rate
- Connection to social accounts to showcase your control over binging!
