Inspiration
Empathy needs to be at the heart of everything we do at Children's Health. Having a buddy who shares the same challenges as the patients gives them a connection who educates and motivates them to follow their needed treatment and record their needed vitals.
What it does
Bink is a 3 part integration system utilizing the lovable character, Binky. Phase one of Binky is implemented in the waiting room of the hospital. Here, the patient plays games and familiarizes themself with the character. In the patient room, Binky is used to educate the patient on the diagnosis through interactive animations and short clips catered to the child's needs. Phase two is taking Binky home! An app will house Binky, where the overall health of Binky will be mirroring the diagnosis of the patient. Depending on the diagnosis, the necessary daily tasks to maintain Binky's health will vary from taking insulin shots, to getting 30 minutes of activity in. Through daily challenges and side games, the patient has the ability to earn virtual coins which can be used to unlock special games, and the ability to customize Binky. Phase three of Bink is taking the recorded data, and making a readable display for the doctor. As the patient's information is recorded into the Bink app, the vital signs are recorded and sent to the hospital to be analyzed.
How we built it
We are all brand new coders! We joined a computer science program about one month ago, so we used anything and everything we knew how to do! We created our presentation using: -HTML -CSS -Bootstrap -Javascript -Figma -Adobe illustrator -Scratch
Challenges we ran into
Having a limited belt of tools meant we needed to get creative, and fast! We had to learn everything in one (very long) sitting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Absolutely everything!!! This was the first project we have ever made.
What we learned
We learned how to use bootstrap, scratch 2.0, Figma, and how to put it all together! We have also never been to a Hackathon, so we learned how fun one could be!
What's next for BINK
Bink needs to get the games developed, and the data system created to transfer the information to the doctors.
