Inspiration
I was inspired to create BLM y AAPI and focus on this topic because of the importance of fighting racism and the pickup of the BLM movement along with the more recent hate crimes against the AAPI community. I have many Asian friends and knowing that people like them or their family is being targeted by such terrors wants me to advocate and support them.
What it does
BLM y AAPI is a compilation of resources for you and others to educate yourselves about current events regarding racism and hate crimes.
How we built it
I built my website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript all of the Atom text editor.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges I ran into were creating the slideshows on some of the pages and formatting the animations I had made. However, I was able to overcome them by doing trial and error and experimentation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of this being my first hackathon website and some of the special features like the text animations on some of the headers that look similar to a neon sign almost. I'm also proud of the slideshow with images that display the protests.
What we learned
What I learned is that making websites is hard but practice makes perfect. This is only the second, "complete" website I have made and I'm extremely proud of myself for adding really cool animations. I also learned that trial and error is okay to do because it helps you learn in the long run.
What's next for BLM y AAPI
The next step for BLM y AAPI is its addition to a larger parent website that will focus on current events across the world like global warming, mass genocides, fast fashion labor ethics and more.
